On 18–20 February 2025, the International Air Transport Association (IATA), representing some 340 airlines over 80% of global air traffic, hosted its annual World Legal Symposium (WLS) in Shanghai, China. After a confidential briefing session to its member airlines on 18 February 2025, the WLS convened discussions on the topic of ‘Beyond the Chicago Convention: The New and the Unresolved’ on 19–20 February 2025. The WLS attracted about 330 aviation legal professionals and fifty-two speakers in twelve sessions. This report summarizes the activities, keynote speeches and panel discussions of the WLS.
